The Surfer's Encyclopedia

Surferpedia is an encyclopedia of surfing, which is similar to Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. They are both powered by the same program - MediaWiki. Both allow visitors to review and modify articles simply by clicking on the edit this article link. However, Surferpedia differs to Wikipedia insofar as it covers more surf-related topics in far greater detail than would be appropriate on Wikipedia.

Feature article: Surfism

Dan WebberAdded by Dan Webber
Surfism is a philosophy that views existence in terms that correspond to surfing. The term was adopted by Australian surfer and intellectual, Dan Webber, who suggests that the mind emerges from the confluence of spatial and temporal relations, which he portrays metaphorically as a breaking wave. The rational framework for Surfism is based on the notion of embodied cognition (EC), which characterises the mind as physically grounded in its situated presence. At its core, Surfism distinguishes between spatial and temporal relations based on the role of optic flow in spatial perception.

"Dan writes for us surfers, though his concepts will be understood and debated by existential philosophers." -Pierce Flynn, Ph.D
