David Gyngell is head of Channel 9 in Sydney, Australia. He is the son of Bruce Gyngell, who was a leading television executive in Australia and the UK. Having grown up in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Gyngell surfed at Bondi Beach, where he established a surf shop with school mate Dan Webber in 1985. In 1986, he won the ITN Club Championship, competing against the likes of David Davidson, Bill Power and Dean Cook.
